From Santa Claus to superheroes, a group of postmen and women have so far raised over £8,750 for a Norfolk-based charity, while bringing smiles to the communities they serve.

The group, dubbed the Posties of Fakenham, have spent lockdown raising funds for littlelifts, who provide gift boxes to women undergoing chemotherapy treatment.

It's a cause that was chosen by the wife of one of their colleagues, who completes her course of chemotherapy today, 8th July.

To highlight the support of what they've described as their "postie family", the group will be also be bringing their fundraiser to and end this week, and will dress up for the last time on Saturday.

A spokesperson for the group, who've been doing it for seven weeks, explained the idea has come with some challenges.

They said: "Wearing a costume on delivery isn’t always ideal, but so many have coped so admirably with the idea.

"A soggy costume isn’t the most comfortable, neither is a full Santa or Reindeer costume on one of the hottest days of the year. But we’ve had people do it, which is amazing!"

The majority of costumes - which have been spotted in Fakenham, Walsingham, Wells-next-the-Sea, Briston and Holt areas - have been loaned for free by Arnies Attack in Dereham.

The rest have been provided by the posties themselves, as well as customers.

The idea, which was inspired by other posties across the country, has been a welcome site to communities during these strange times.

The group said: "Initially we had so many people at home wondering why we were doing what we were, but as time went on children started going back to school, and people started returning to work, which is of course brilliant.

"So many had looked out for us in the mornings, tapping on their windows and then giving us such lovely smiles – they clearly appreciated our efforts."
